pb'll believe it when he sees it. But, this is from USA TODAY.

I "guess" Jordan is okay. I would have preferred Steve, but he got out quickly for the vote to happen. He's doing what he needed to do for the party, both ways.

Prediction: Jim Jordan won't get the needed number of votes when the entire House votes, which I believe is 217.

  3. by HatetheSwamp on October 14, 2023 4:00 am

It is 217. I hate to agree with you...though, watching interviews of HouseGOPs, they're feeling pressured to resolve this problem. The real world is pressing in.

They're taking a break over the weekend. See video.

They're functioning like their own European "democracy."

Prediction: The dims won't vote for anyone for the next few weeks and blame it on the GOP.

    OD,
The Democrats definitely will vote for someone. Namely, they will vote for Hakeem Jeffries. Just as they have done in the 15 elections, the Republicans held for Kevin McCarthy. It will be the Republican majority that will blame Democrats for not voting for some Republican.

  6. by HatetheSwamp on October 14, 2023 8:46 am

Y'know, Curt, if the Dems had chosen a leader who wasn't a wacko, It's possible that a few purple GOPs'd vote for the Dem for speaker.

  7. by Curt_Anderson on October 14, 2023 9:07 am
As if Jim Jordan isn’t a wacko. I think the Democrats might get together with moderate Republicans to pick a candidate acceptable to Democrats.

  8. by HatetheSwamp on October 14, 2023 9:35 am

    No.

First, the Dems are subservient locksteppers.

Second, if they didn't help out McCarthy, they ain't gunna be bipartisan for any GOP candidate.

In fact, it's that the Dems elevated such a radical leader that is giving Jordan some cover among GOPs. He ain't as bonkers as Jeffries... by a looooooooong shot.
